- Main language is English (some conversations might be in German or other languages ;-)
- some tips and hints for a better LDC to be found in our small LDC Guide
[edit] Co-located events
The Third Vienna Semantic Web Meetup will take place on Monday, Nov 30, starting at 18.00 in the same location as the Linked Data Camp Vienna 2009.
[edit] After the Linked Data Camp
Right after the Linked Data Camp you have the choice of two excellent conferences:
- ESTC 2009 European Semantic Technology Conference 2009, Dec 2-3
- SAMT 2009 4th International Conference on Semantic and Digital Media Technologies, Dec 2-4

[edit] Who
[edit] Organizers
The Linked Data Camp Vienna is brought to you by
- Bernhard Schandl and Bernhard Haslhofer (University of Vienna)
- Andreas Langegger (Johannes Kepler University Linz)
- Wolfgang Halb (JOANNEUM RESEARCH)
- Tobias Bürger (STI Innsbruck)

[edit] What
[edit] Topics
- Andreas Blumauer (FOAF, XING, Blog): Corporate Tagging - Vocabularies, Tagging in the context of Linked Data; Commercialisation of Linked Data - use cases, scenarios, awareness building (Why the term -Linking Open Data- might be misleading-)
- Violeta Damjanovic (Salzburg Research): Linked Data and Artificial Intelligence, e.g. cognitive agents that exploit Linked Open Data; lightweight ontologies for specifying semantics in Linked Open Data; Ontology Design Patterns for Linked Open Data
- Leo Sauermann and Bernhard Schandl (gnowsis.com): Using Open Linked Data on the Semantic Desktop. Preview of our social semantic desktop idea.
- Andreas Langegger (J. Kepler University Linz)
- discuss and share experiences with virtual RDF/SPARQL wrappers (D2R-Server, XLWrap, etc.) and brainstorm/hack other legacy data wrappers based on Jena ARQ
- autom. SPARQL wrapper induction for deep web sources based on learnable domain ontologies
- Matthias Samwald (DERI Galway, Ireland // Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research, Austria)
- Finding simpler and more practical means of creating, interlinking and finding statements on the web of Linked Data, based on the SIOC and aTag conventions. This is related to the topic of tagging (proposed by Andreas Blumauer). The basic idea is to have small sippets human-readable text that capture a statement and tagging this snippet with entities from DBpedia and ontologies. This approach might help in bringing RDF/OWL to the masses by making the whole system less complex and more intuitive.
- Semantic Web / Linked Data and ontologies for life science, medicine and the pharmaceutical industry.
- Daniel Koller (Siemens AG, Munich)
- How to make semantic knowledge usable for endusers (e.g. natural-language queries, etc.)
- How to make ontologies open to further improvement e.g. via folksonomics (e.g. without requiring OWL knowledge)
- Linked Data for Expert Search and Expert Profiling on the Social Web (working on a prototype to display expert profiles as semantic data)
- Niko Popitsch and Bernhard Haslhofer (Universität Wien) want to discuss the problem of link integrity / broken links in linked data sets
- present DSNotify
- discuss alternative approaches
- Milan Stankovic (Hypios.com):
- Linked Data for Networks of Competence,
- Finding good problem solvers in existing Social Networks using the Linked Data Cloud
- Thomas Schandl (Semantic Web Company) - discuss ways to improve the possibilities of (semi-)automatic interlinking of datasets, i.e. matching identical ressources from different datasets. Talk about ideas on how to extend existing services or tools (DBpedia lookup, SILK, ...) or create new ones based on things like semantic vectors, spreading activation, ...
- Claudia Wagner (JOANNEUM RESEARCH):
- +1 Linked Data and Artificial Intelligence (proposed by Violeta)
- Linked Data for Text Classification Problems
- Linked Data for Expert Search and Expert Profiling on the Social Web
- Alexandre Monnin (Panthéon-Sorbonne University)
- Tagging & Semantic tagging with regard to the work accomplished during the Vocamp at Nice which saw the creation of the NiceTag ontology (presented at SNI09, Social Networks Interoperability, 1st International Workshop 2009 at ASWC 2009, Dec. 7)
- Thomas Röck(Siemens AG, Vienna)
- The basis to create personalised services is to know a persons interest. How can the semantic web enable someone to express permanent or temporal interest in a topic, so that for example web portals can adjust themselves to a users needs or service offers can find their way to users who are interested?
- How can the semantic web help me gain control over all data about me that are spread all over the Web? E.g. assign a property that indicates that my profiles in any social network or my medical data belong to me and can not be accessed by anyone without my permission, no matter where in the web of data they reside.
- Georg Güntner (Salzburg Research)
- Linked Media := Linked Content + Linked Data + Linked People
- Has to be presented - if at all - on day 1
- Robert Barta (independent, the most evil blog)
- Austrian Linked Data: How to "encourage" the Austrian government to release public data
- quantified linked data: How to process and visualize semantic networks "properly"
- Michael Hausenblas
- developing a vocabulary for the discovery of linked dataset dynamics (dady), to be used with voiD
- I will virtually participate (btw, what's the IRC channel - shall we use #swig?) and looking forward to implement a client/server demo in PHP for dady+Atom
- (add your ideas here)
